APPLICATION NOTES

Selecting an air cooler cleaning programme

How deposits, materials and engine procedures guide marine air cooler cleaner selection.

Characterise the contamination

Oil, grease, soot and carbon can contaminate marine diesel air coolers and charge-air systems. Review deposit type, extent of contamination, heat-transfer surfaces and seals before selecting a cleaner.

Follow equipment procedures

Confirm the engine and cooler manufacturer’s cleaning method, isolation requirements and drainage arrangements. Do not assume a cleaner is approved for online injection or every cleaning method.

Match the cleaning grade

Review MTX-EC-101 for the application described in its documentation and MTX-EC-102 for heavier contamination or periodic deep cleaning. Selection depends on the actual deposit load and the permitted maintenance process.

Verify before return to service

Prepare the cleaning solution and manage contact according to the approved TDS. Rinse, drain and inspect passages, surfaces and seals under the equipment procedure before restarting.

Based on the METOX product catalogue. These selection notes do not replace the current product TDS, SDS or equipment procedures.
