Phosphating & Conversion Coatings
Low-Sludge Cold Heading Phosphating Agent
MTX-PH-104
Product overview
A low-sludge, nickel-free phosphating treatment for steel wire and blanks before fastener cold heading. The conversion coating carries subsequent soap lubricants during bolt, screw and related forming. Select by steel grade, forming severity and lubricant system. Control bath acidity and coating coverage; assess formed surfaces and die condition. Confirm the matching replenisher rather than substituting a wire- drawing grade.
Typical applications
- Fastener cold heading Provides a film foundation for lubrication and plastic deformation of bolts, nuts, screws and heading wire.
- Continuous and multi-station forming For continuous, high-rate heading with soap lubrication where stable pretreatment is required.
- Low-sludge bath management For lines controlling sludge, cleaning frequency and long-term bath condition through routine maintenance.
Key benefits
- Cold heading lubrication base Creates a conversion coating carrier for soap lubrication and cold forming of fastener wire.
- Low-sludge process design Balances film formation and sludge management for continuous production maintenance.
- Nickel-free option For pretreatment processes specifying nickel-free formulations.
Application guidelines
- Complete degreasing, pickling, rinsing and activation. Confirm forming reduction and lubrication requirements.
- Control bath conditions and replenish from analysis using the matched TDS system. Confirm PH-107 compatibility before use.
- Check phosphate coverage. Complete soap treatment and drying; assess formed surfaces, dies and residual film.
Use the current product TDS for operating parameters and the SDS for handling, storage and transport. Confirm compatibility under your process conditions.

Questions before ordering
What should be evaluated in a cold heading phosphating trial?
Evaluate the phosphate coating and soap lubricant as a system on representative wire or blanks. Check formed surfaces, die condition, residual film and routine bath maintenance alongside coating coverage.
How should the phosphating bath be replenished?
Use analysis and the matched product TDS to establish replenishment. Confirm the appropriate replenisher for MTX-PH-104; do not transfer a wire drawing bath programme without technical review.
What information should I provide for MTX-PH-104?
Share the substrate or equipment, process conditions, existing treatment, intended use, required quantity and destination country. We will review these with your product request.
Can I evaluate a sample?
Ask about sample availability and a representative evaluation for Low-Sludge Cold Heading Phosphating Agent. Sample quantity, shipment and trial conditions are agreed for the application.
Is private-label supply available?
Ask us to review MTX-PH-104 for your OEM programme. Packaging, labels, documentation and target-market requirements need to be agreed before supply.
