Phosphating & Conversion Coatings
Steel Wire Drawing Phosphating Treatment
MTX-PH-102
Product overview
Designed for the pretreatment of steel wire prior to cold drawing. The treatment forms a phosphate conversion coating that acts as a carrier for subsequent soap-based lubricants, supporting lubrication during multi-pass drawing. Evaluate process conditions and coating performance according to steel grade, drawing reduction, lubricant system and production-line requirements. Check coverage, lubricant retention, drawn surface quality and die condition.
Typical applications
- Wire drawing pretreatment Provides a conversion coating foundation for soap treatment and drawing lubrication before continuous steel wire drawing.
- Multi-pass and high-reduction drawing For cold drawing requiring stable films and lubrication, especially continuous multi-pass wire processing.
- Phosphating and soap treatment lines For industrial continuous or batch pretreatment comprising degreasing, pickling, phosphating and soap lubrication.
Key benefits
- Lubricant carrier Forms a phosphate coating for subsequent lubrication in cold wire drawing.
- Multi-pass process support Supports surface lubrication in continuous drawing and higher-reduction operations.
- Pretreatment integration Combines with pickling, rinsing and soap treatment for continuous film formation and lubrication.
Application guidelines
- Degrease, pickle and activate as required for the wire grade. Check oxide removal and rinse quality.
- Control bath conditions and replenish from analysis using the matched TDS system. Confirm PH-107 compatibility before use.
- Check phosphate coverage. Complete prescribed rinsing, soap treatment and drying; assess performance through drawing results.
Use the current product TDS for operating parameters and the SDS for handling, storage and transport. Confirm compatibility under your process conditions.

Questions before ordering
What is the purpose of phosphating before wire drawing?
The phosphate conversion coating carries the subsequent soap-based lubricant. Evaluate coverage and lubricant retention together with drawn surface quality and die condition under the intended drawing reduction.
Can a wire drawing grade replace a cold heading treatment?
Review the forming operation before substituting a grade. MTX-PH-102 is intended for steel wire drawing; MTX-PH-104 addresses cold heading requirements. Confirm the coating, lubricant and replenisher system for the selected operation.
What information should I provide for MTX-PH-102?
Share the substrate or equipment, process conditions, existing treatment, intended use, required quantity and destination country. We will review these with your product request.
Can I evaluate a sample?
Ask about sample availability and a representative evaluation for Steel Wire Drawing Phosphating Treatment. Sample quantity, shipment and trial conditions are agreed for the application.
Is private-label supply available?
Ask us to review MTX-PH-102 for your OEM programme. Packaging, labels, documentation and target-market requirements need to be agreed before supply.
